Recycling lame excuses for poor 2013 GCSE results

Latest Ofsted report for Moseley School - Moseley School requires improvement in all categories. The reasons cited by Ofsted for Moseley School's poor performance are very different from the recycled lame excuses that the school has cited to parents, councillors and the local community.

Will Thelma Probert OBE be appointed by Birmingham City Council on a fixed term contract as an independent director of school standards?

Prime Minister says youngsters miss out on jobs because they lack basic skills. Is it because they have English as an Additional Language (EAL), or are on Free School Meals (FSM) or have Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Is it because they come from disadvantaged backgrounds? Or is it because they attended schools like Moseley where more than half the pupils fail to achieve the unambitious government floor target?

The Ofsted dashboard confirms that the only good thing about Moseley School is attendance. The dashboard also confirms that Moseley has hardly improved over the past three years. That's what maintaining standards is really about and that's what happens when people like Thelma Probert OBE are on the governing body. If there was a genuine desire to raise standards and attainment at Moseley School then Thelma Probert OBE would never have been appointed as the first Chair of the Moseley School Interim Executive Board.

Moseley School recycles same old lame excuses for poor performance. Such lamentable excuses convey the impression that there is no credible strategy in place to achieve a pass rate in excess of 60% or 70%.

Does Thelma Probert OBE sit on the Head Teacher's Performance Management panel? If so, how can she set the Head Teacher a target of 50% of pupils passing five GCSE subjects at grades A*-C including English and Maths and a stretch target of 60% when the best she ever achieved was 24%?

Historical Low Attainment at Moseley School

Moseley School pupils held back by multiple vested interests.

Does this culture of low aspirations, low expectations and mediocrity sound familiar? “We do nine GCSEs here...There is no reason for anyone to do more.

It's Thelma Probert OBE with her 24% pass rate that create an unequal society.

How Moseley School pupils lose out when school experts fails them.

Moseley School governors including Thelma Probert OBE need to stop whinging and singing kumbayah and toughen up. They  need to show the whites of their eyes and ask:

  • How are our children performing compared to the national average and other high performing schools?
  • Is money being spent wisely? Has money originally allocated for disadvantaged pupils been siphoned off to a building company to refurbish a dilapidated building and who owns the company and building in question?
  • Will we prioritise the attainment and the progress of our students?
  • Why have our English results dipped again? Will we ever learn?
  • Who is accountable for financial mismanagement (which Ofsted failed to report on) and poor English results?

Is Moseley School offering its children the best traditional education that money can buy?
