Save Moseley School (SMS)

Save Moseley School (SMS) was launched by Dr. David Simones-Jones and his family after the Moseley School Governing Body was removed. With the support of former pupils, parent and community governors of Moseley School they sought to retain and save Moseley School's independence from infiltration and takeover by Tim Boyes the substantive Head Teacher of Queensbridge School (Riverside Church) and his longtime ally Thelma Probert OBE.

First the Local Authority (Birmingham City Council) tried a soft federation between Moseley School and Queensbridge school without telling the Moseley School Governing Body.

Then the Local Authority changed the goalpost and tried a hard federation between Moseley School and Queensbridge school in which most of the Moseley School governors would be removed. When Moseley School governors resisted, the Local Authority issued a Statutory Warning Notice containing false allegations against the Governing Body. The Governing Body appealed to Ofsted but lost the appeal because additional allegations were submitted to Ofsted which the Moseley School Governing Body was not afforded an opportunity to challenge.

When Queensbridge results fell to 30% and Moseley School results went up to 33%, the hard federation was no longer possible.

The Local Authority then suggested a Trust arrangement in which Queensbridge would be a partner along with organisations that had no expertise in running a large inner city school. Once again the Moseley School Governing Body resisted because the proposition was untenable. No Governing Body on earth would accept Queensbridge as a partner with a risible pass rate of 30%.

The Local Authority then applied to the Secretary of State for Education, Ed Balls to remove the Governing Body. For reasons only known to Ed Balls, he agreed to the application. It appears he made a balls up. After the Governing Body was removed the Local Authority changed the goalpost again which resulted in both Moseley School and Queensbridge being converted to Foundation schools (without proper consultation of the communities served by both schools).

In 2011 Ofsted failed the school and put it into a category (Notice To Improve). This happened when Tim Boyes was Interim Head. So much for being a highly respected head teacher.

Not surprisingly, Tim Boyes was not appointed as substantive Head Teacher of Moseley School. All his efforts to defame and remove the Moseley School Governing Body had been in vain. A removals van was booked and Deputy McBrien loaded it with Tim's belongings. Boyes had to return the keys to the school caretaker. To this day, Tim Boyes remains a bitter man walking the earth, looking for any opportunity to exact revenge (Wuthering Boyes).

During his brief tenure at Moseley School, Tim Boyes appointed two Deputies illegally (Job for the Boyes) and engaged in a bit financial mismanagement.
